Report: Incognito paid $30,000 to settle incident
Suspended Miami Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito paid about $30,000 to settle a 2012 incident involving a Florida woman during a team golf tournament, the Miami Herald reported Sunday.
The 34-year-old woman accused Incognito of harassing her while she was a volunteer at the Dolphins' annual "Fins Weekend Golf Tournament" in May 2012 at the Turnberry Resort and Club in Aventura.
She claimed Incognito had been drinking alcohol and was acting inappropriately. He allegedly approached her and rubbed his golf club against her vagina. Then, he rubbed up against her from behind, saying "Let it rain, let it rain," before pouring bottled water on her face.
Incognito reportedly met with NFL executives before the 2012 season to discuss the incident as well as other instances of alcohol-related misbehavior.
Several weeks ago, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said "that incident occurred a year-and-a-half ago. We were made aware of the incident, and we took immediate action," but did not say what action was taken.
Incognito met with NFL investigator Ted Wells late last week stemming from alleged bullying and harassment of teammate Jonathan Martin, who left the team Oct. 28. Incognito was suspended Nov. 3 for conduct detrimental to the team. Incognito filed a grievance against the Dolphins to be reinstated on the roster and collect lost wages. He earns $235,294.12 per week.
