Report: Giants prioritizing contract for Nicks over Cruz

The New York Giants are placing a higher priority to get a long-term contract done for Hakeem Nicks than teammate Victor Cruz, according to ESPN.com.

Cruz had a more productive 2012 than Nicks at wide receiver. Cruz is 26 and has averaged 1,314 yards with 9.5 touchdowns the past two seasons and will be a free agent.

Nicks, 25, has one year left on his contract. He had 53 catches for 692 yards with three touchdowns as knee and foot injuries kept him to 13 games in 2012.

Still, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Giants consider Nicks a No. 1 receiver. Nicks averaged 77.5 receptions, 1,122 yards and nine touchdowns in 2010 and 2011.

Giants owner John Mara said Friday that the team wants Cruz back but there are limits to how much money it can give him.
