Report: 49ers' Aldon Smith passenger in serious accident Friday
Two days before he started and played every snap against the Detroit Lions, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith of the 49ers was in a single-car accident in which the driver was hospitalized with a "broken back."
The Sacramento Bee reported the accident took place Friday at 11:45 p.m. The California Highway Patrol said alcohol was not involved.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center with a serious back injury. The CHP called the injury a "broken back."
Smith suffered a cut above his eye and was treated at the 49ers' team facility. He had seven tackles and a sack in the 49ers' win less than 48 hours later against the Detroit Lions.
Smith, a first-round pick in 2011, was charged with DUI in January in Miami and hosted a party in June in which two guests were shot and Smith suffered minor stab wounds.
