Redskins Snyder goes quiet; and that’s a good thing

Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has been quiet for a while now. If you’re a fan, that’s a pretty great thing. Inside the organization, I imagine it’s a fantastic thing, times 1,000.

Even that may be a low estimate.

After many long, and torturous seasons, Redskins fans can finally focus on football, and less on drama and their owner being the centerpiece to a three ring circus.

Now having said all of that, let me concede one thing: When RGIII led the Redskins to the playoffs, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Washington had found the sweet spot.

And in some ways they had. In Robert Griffin III, Snyder had found a name, a Heisman winner, and a dynamic player who’d ignited remarkable excitement for a franchise that had grown stagnant.

And now?

In the post-script of Albert Haynesworth, and the deliberate undermining of Mike Shanahan via RGIII, the relative calm brought on by a franchise focused on football and only football, bodes well for this team.

Scot McCloughan, courtesy of two solid drafts, has Daniel Snyder right where he needs him to be; on the sideline.

Now, if you’re a gambler, the interesting bet is how long does Snyder stay in the background.

Snyder had become his own worst enemy, and whatever he touched, went south.

Even the ‘Redskins’ name, in a poll and subsequent article in the Washington Post, didn’t really provide any vindication.

And he was right on that subject.

To his credit, the last two seasons, especially entering 2016, have seen a team void of his fingerprints. McCloughan clearly is the guy who owns whatever and wherever their fortunes take them.

No longer is their a sideline shot of a free agent signing gone bad, and a screenshot of Snyder up in his box. Their won’t be an RGIII, and a look at Snyder plotting his next move against his head coach.

Now, Redskins fans can watch a team, sans the drama and owner preening.

Come Sunday’s, look for players like Su’a, Doctson and Matt Ioannidis.

Better yet, let the camera take a long look at Josh Norman.

You’ll also likely note that when they show the architect of the latest Redskins installment, it won’t accompany a look at Daniel Snyder. Instead, expect the camera to find Scot McCloughan.

In McCloughan, fans have an antidote to the Redskins owner, and the last best shot at getting it right.

Finally, fans have this team right where they want them to be.

And it’s without Dan Snyder.

How good is that?
