Redskins name McDaniel WR coach

The Washington Redskins announced Saturday that they named Mike McDaniel as wide receivers coach.

McDaniel, 29, has been with the Redskins as an offensive assistant the past two years. He also spent 2006-08 with the Houston Texans as an assistant.

"Mike has a proven track record from his time in Houston and his time here in Washington," coach and executive vice president Mike Shanahan said in a statement. "I look forward to having him lead our receivers."

McDaniel was running backs coach of the United Football League's Sacramento Mountain Lions (originally named the California Redwoods) in 2009-10. He played collegiately at Yale (2001-04) as a wide receiver.
