Penguins' Malkin placed on injured reserve

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed center Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 22, because of a concussion, the team announced Monday.

Malkin was officially diagnosed with a concussion on Sunday, after having severe headaches and experiencing mild disorientation, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

Malkin, 26, is not expected to be with the team during its upcoming three-game road trip to Florida (Tuesday), Carolina (Thursday) and Montreal (Saturday).

Malkin left Friday's game against the Florida Panthers in the third period after colliding with defenseman Erik Gudbranson and falling into the end boards.

Malkin has four goals and 21 points in 18 games this season.
