Orioles send Garciato to minors

The Baltimore Orioles optioned veteran pitcher Freddy Garcia to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

He can choose to become a free agent rather than report to the minors because of his lnegth of service.

Garcia has already cleared waivers.

Garcia, 36, pitched pretty well at the beginning of the season, starting six games and recording a 3.57 ERA.

But things have not gone as well recently. He has allowed 20 runs in 17 2/3 innings this month.

Overall this season, Garcia is 3-5 with a 5.77 ERA.

He has no plans to retire, according to MLB.com, so he'll probably try to sign with another team if he becomes a free agent.

Garcia was replaced on the roster by Kevin Gausman, who was 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA in five starts with Baltimore this season before being sent down to Triple-A.
