One of the more interesting former Titans

During Super Bowl week, many former and present Titans were present in Houston. One of the more interesting former Titans was Jarrett Payton.

Jarrett is the son of NFL Legend Walter Payton. Walter Payton was a unique man, adored by many. His nickname was Sweetness and yet he would run all over defenses. The hall of fame running back passed away in November of 1999.

The NFL named a prestigious award after Walter- the NFL man of the year award. Delanie Walker was the Titans team winner. Larry Fitzgerald and Eli Manning won the award this year.

After a career at the University of Miami, Jarrett played in NFLEurope. Former Titans head coach Jeff Fisher had played with Sweetness on the Chicago Bears. Every team in the NFL was intrigued by the son of Sweetness, yet he went undrafted. The Titans signed him and it was a surprise to no one that the son of a legend would earn a spot on the roster. Payton played for the Titans in 2005. He followed that up with time in the CFL and the IFL.

Jarrett’s football career was brief. He wasn’t blessed with the same talents and abilities of his legendary father. He did inherit the same grace and class that his father embodied to be nicknamed Sweetness. Jarrett has matured from being an impressive young man to an impressive father and husband. If not the ambassador of the style of play Walter played, he certainly is an ambassador of the type of man Walter was.

NFL greats seem to recognize Jarrett’s wonderful attributes and welcome him into elite social circles. In the picture above, Jarrett is with legends Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Marcus Allen, and Earl Campbell. Jarrett interviewed them for “Roots of Fight.” Roots Of Fight celebrates the improbable achievements of today’s most legendary athletes, innovators, and cultural icons.
