NHL, players resume talks after two weeks

The SportsXchange

League officials and members of the NHL Players' Association met Saturday for the first time in more than two weeks to negotiate for a new collective bargaining agreement, according to

The two sides last negotiated Oct. 18 before talks broke off.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly met with players' union Special Counsel Steve Fehr at an undisclosed location.

"Just trying to move the process forward," Daly wrote to in an email. "Maybe generate some more candid discussion on the issues that are separating us."

The NHL already cancelled all November games, the SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival that was scheduled for Dec. 16-31 in Detroit and the Jan. 1 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium.

The League announced that the next Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2014, will be at Michigan Stadium between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

So far, 326 games have been cancelled because of the league-imposed lockout that began Sept. 15 when the collective bargaining agreement expired.
