NFL roundup: Jets waive Tebow

Quarterback Tim Tebow was waived by the New York Jets.

Tebow arrived at the team facility Monday for voluntary workouts and was informed in a meeting with general manager John Idzik and coach Rex Ryan that he would officially be waived.

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," Ryan said Monday. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."

In what direction Tebow moves is anyone's guess. He will be on the waiver wire at 4 p.m. ET Monday.

---The Jets also announced running back Chris Ivory has signed a three-year contract extension and the team signed free agent guard Stephen Peterman.

Ivory was acquired from the New Orleans Saints for a fourth-round pick on Friday and agreed to a three-year $10 million deal.

---The Buffalo Bills announced they traded linebacker Kelvin Sheppard to the Indianapolis Colts for linebacker Jerry Hughes.

Sheppard had 80 tackles (56 solo) and 2.0 sacks last year. Hughes started six of the 16 games he played last year for the Colts. He had 41 tackles (29 solo), including a career-high 4.0 sacks.

---The Jacksonville Jaguars announced they waived first-year defensive end Jerome Long and first-year wide receiver Jerrell Jackson.

After the moves, the Jaguars have 59 players under contract. They drafted eight players over the weekend and agreed to terms with 23 rookie free agents.

--- The Green Bay Packers released guard Joe Gibbs. Gibbs, a first-year player out of Tennessee-Martin, was on Green Bay's practice squad for the final six regular-season contests and both playoff games last season.

---Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim told Sports Illustrated's Peter King on Sunday night that former Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu is not the type of player the team ordinarily drafts. But they were willing to take the risk by grabbing the former LSU defensive back in the third round of the NFL draft on Friday.

After a stellar 2011 season, Mathieu failed several drug tests and was kicked off the team during a troubled 2012 season.
