Special Edition! Read all about it! Yes, I know it’s a little early for all this mock draft stuff getting back underway, but this edition of Mock Draft Monday will be a bit different. At this point in the season, most of us know what the weakest position on the Miami Dolphins are and that is at cornerback.

Sure the team has some really talented players full of potential. None of them have hit that potential though. Xavien Howard is likely the best of the bunch. If he can get healthy, he will be a definite number two corner in this league and a potential number one. Tony Lippett is a converted wide receiver. Byron Maxwell is just not cut out for this system.

With plenty of fish in the seas of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins may choose to spend a first round pick on a cornerback. Breaking down three different selection areas for the team, here are three cornerbacks the Miami Dolphins may consider drafting this April.

Top Ten Pick — Jalen Tabor — Florida

So far in 2016, the Florida Gator corner has four interceptions… in five games! This man is an absolute ballhawk. While he is a little immature at times, Tabor is a number one corner in college and likely one in the NFL someday. Making his situation even better though is the stream of top secondary players that have been Gators over the years.

Having the prototypical size, Tabor will not face the same issues that shorter corners have faced in recent years. The one issue I do have with Tabor is how strong the Gators defense has been. Could there overall performance be boosting Tabor? Yes. However, I still go back to my earlier point of FOUR interceptions in FIVE games!

Mid-Round Pick — Desmond King — Iowa

If this kid played at most other schools, he would be a top tier pick in the draft. Choosing to return to school for his senior season to honor his mother’s wishes at getting an education, King has been a shutdown corner this year for the Hawkeyes. That, however, is where King’s biggest problem currently lies.

Having yet to take on a real passing powerhouse, King has been avoided by almost every quarterback Iowa has faced this season. With little data as his pertains to him when he is targeted, I could see King sliding down a little ways in the first round. If he is available past the tenth pick, I say that the Miami Dolphins should definitely select him.

Sub-23 Pick — Sidney Jones — Washington

Possibly benefiting from the Huskies current undefeated season, Sidney Jones could see his draft stock continue to rise as long as Washington remains in the playoff picture. Jones’ situation may even be comparable to that of King’s who stock rose the longer Iowa’s undefeated season lasted last year.

While Jones is not on the level of the above two players yet, he does have the size needed to be a corner in the NFL. Whether that spot is a number one, I don’t know. However, if you trust that Xavien Howard will be your number one, I’d be willing to take a flyer on Jones should the Dolphins be picking late in April.
