MLB Roundup: Cabrera day to day with abdominal injury
Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is considered day to day with an abdomen injury, the team announced.
Cabrera left Thursday's game against the Oakland A's in the bottom of the fifth inning after being thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single into a double. After he got up from his slide, he grabbed the back of his left leg. He limped off the field favoring his left hip. He has dealt with hip and abdomen discomfort during the past month.
Cabrera is having another MVP-caliber season, with a line of .359/.450/.683 with 43 home runs and a league-leading 130 RBI.
---Hoping to continue their push toward the playoffs, the Baltimore Orioles made revocable waiver claims for Michael Morse and Josh Willingham and are also kicking the tires on recently released left-handed hitter Jason Kubel.
That doesn't guarantee the Orioles will acquire any or all of the players. A trade for a veteran must be completed by 11:59 on Aug. 31 in order for that player to be eligible for a postseason roster.

---The Cleveland Indians activated right-hander Brett Myers from the 60-day disabled list and then released him on Thursday.
Myers has not pitched since April after suffering an elbow injury.
The 33-year-old appeared in four games for the Indians and made three starts this season, going 0-3 with an 8.02 ERA and giving up 19 runs in 21 1/3 innings. His last start was April 19.
---The San Diego Padres pulled third baseman Chase Headley off revocable waivers after an unidentified team claimed him, CBSSports.com reported Thursday.
That means Headley will remain with the Padres for the remainder of the season. The Padres are expected to attempt to sign him to a long-term contract during the off-season. Headley is under contract for $8.575 million this year. He is eligible for free agency after the 2014 season.
The 29-year-old's production at the plate is down from last year. After beginning this season on the disabled list with a hand injury, Headley is hitting .240 with eight homers and 36 RBIs. Last year, he batted .286 with 31 homers and 115 RBIs.
---Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitcher Gustavo Armas, Detroit Tigers shortstop Moises Bello and Chicago White Sox catcher Nicholas Parent were each suspended 50 games for violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Armas, on the roster of the Venezuelan Summer League Phillies, tested positive for a metabolite of Nandrolone. Bello, on the roster of the Venezuelan Summer League Tigers, tested positive for a metabolite of Boldenone. Parent, on the roster of the rookie-level Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League, tested positive for metabolites of Stanozolol.
