Mariners swap pitchers in the bullpen

The Seattle Mariners called up left-hander Oliver Perez from Triple-A Tacoma and optioned right-hander Steve Delabar to Tacoma. They also designated outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang for assignment.

Perez, 30, was 2-2 with a 4.65 ERA in 22 relief appearances with Tacoma. His 12.19 strikeouts per nine innings led Pacific Coast relievers.

Delabar made one appearance in his most recent stint with the Mariners. He had been sent down May 30 and recalled June 13, pitching two innings against San Diego on June 14.

Chiang had split the season between Tacoma and Double-A Jackson, hitting .242 with three home runs and 25 RBI. He was part of the deal last July that sent left-hander Erik Bedard and right-hander Josh Fields to Boston.
