Lightning deal Conacher to Senators for Bishop
The Tampa Bay Lightning traded rookie-of-the-year candidate Cory Conacher and a fourth-round draft pick to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday before the NHL deadline for goaltender Ben Bishop.
Conacher, 23, has 24 points in 35 games this season and is a candidate for the Calder Trophy, trailing only Florida's Jonathan Huberdeau among NHL rookies in scoring. He'll become the Senators' leading scorer when he joins the team.
The 6-foot-7 Bishop, 26, has posted an 8-5-0 record with a .922 save percentage this season as the No. 2 goalie behind Craig Anderson, who is close to returning from an ankle injury. Bishop was considered expendable by the Senators with up-and-coming goalie Robin Lehner, 21, on their roster.
The Lightning have played Anders Lindback, Mathieu Garon and Cedrick Desjardins in goal this season. Bishop and Lindback likely will battle to become the team's No. 1 goalie, but Lindback has an ankle injury and is struggling this season.
