Before Julianne Hough and Mark Ballas were Dancing with the Stars pros, the longtime friends danced side-by-side in competitions as kids — and Hough has epic evidence to prove it!

Hough, who serves as a judge on the ABC reality dancing competition series and has two Mirror Ball trophies to her name, shared a throwback photo of herself alongside Ballas as adolescents on Tuesday.

In the photo, Hough and Ballas don all-white costumes — and are both are very, very tan. “#dancerbaby #pastlife #tanAF,” she captioned the Instagram picture, which also documented Ballas’ days wearing braces.

Prior to becoming a household name, Hough and her brother Derek moved in with Ballas’ family (his parent’s Shirley and Corky were family friends) as children — Julianne was just 10 and Derek 13 — to train as ballroom dance pros at the prestigious London dance school Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

On Nov. 25, PEOPLE exclusively reported that Ballas wed his bandmate BC Jean at a venue north of Los Angeles — and tapped Derek to be his best man.

After watching his best friend say “I do,” Hough took to Instagram to pen a congratulatory message in honor of the happy couple.

“Such an honor to be the best man at my brothers wedding. Witnessing their love be sealed under a beautiful Oak tree in front of family friends was such a special moment. Like the tree May you Stand together tall and proud,” he captioned the image of the newlywed pair. “May you always Go out on a limb for one another. To Stay grounded and dig your roots in deep so that you may weather any storm . And always continue to grow, stronger and higher reaching towards the heavens. And to always enjoy the view. Love you two.”
