Jon Fitch on Wednesday lost another opponent for his planned bout at World Series of Fighting 11 on July 5.

WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz on Wednesday confirmed that Jake Shields had to withdraw from the fight with Fitch due to injury, following an initial report by MMAFighting.com.

Shields was already the second opponent for Fitch, who had initially been matched with reigning WSOF welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares. Palhares, however, had to withdraw from the bout to support his mother, who is currently dealing with some serious health issues.

Abdel-Aziz told MMAWeekly.com that the promotion is going to try and keep Fitch on the card. A search for a new opponent is underway, but as of the time of publication, the promotion had not yet settled on a new opponent.

WSOF 11 is set for July 5, but the promotion has yet to announce a venue or location. Lightweight champion Justin Gaethje headlines the card, as he will put his belt on the line against Nick Newell.
