Hofstra 70, Old Dominion 59

Old Dominion had a chance for its first winning streak of the season Sunday night, but the Monarchs couldn't keep Hofstra from making big second-half runs.

The Pride peeled off unanswered spurts of 10 straight points twice after intermission and won the battle of Colonial Athletic Association strugglers with a 70-59 decision at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, N.Y.

David Imes scored 18 points for Hofstra, which used its first 10-0 run of the second half to break a 40-40 tie, then employed its second such stretch to put the game away in the final five minutes. Imes started the first spurt with a 3-pointer and a layup.

Taran Buie added 15 for the Pride (7-22, 4-12 CAA) despite making only five of 18 shots from the field. Jordan Allen and Stevie Mejia had 10 points apiece for Hofstra. Mejia also contributed 10 assists.

Dimitri Batten tallied a game-high 19 points for the Monarchs (4-23, 2-14), while DeShawn Painter contributed a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double. Keenan Palmore scored 11 points for Old Dominion.

The Monarchs outrebounded the Pride 43-34, but Old Dominion hit just four of 22 3-point attempts and committed 19 turnovers that were turned into 23 points.
