Flyers acquire Downie from Avs for Talbot
The Philadelphia Flyers traded center Maxime Talbot to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for right winger Steve Downie.
Downie returns to the Flyers, who selected him in the first round of the 2005 draft. He appeared in 32 games for Philadelphia in 2007-08 before joining Tampa Bay for the next three seasons. He has been with Colorado since the 2011-12 season, and has 145 points and 696 penalty minutes in 285 career NHL games.
Downey has seven points and was plus-4 while playing on Colorado's top line through 11 games this season.
Talbot has just one goal and one assist in 11 games this season. The 29-year-old has 77 goals and 154 points in 515 games with the Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Flyers take on a $2.75 million salary cap hit with Downie, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Talbot brings a $1.75 million cap hit for Colorado and is under contract for the next two years.
"Maxime is a veteran forward who has won a Stanley Cup and has a lot of NHL experience," Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said. "We're looking forward to him bringing that experience to our club."
