Fever 78, Sun 66

Tamika Catchings scored 22 points and the Indiana Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun 78-66 on Saturday night in Indianapolis.

Briann January had 14 points and seven rebounds and Shavonte Zellous also scored 14 points for the Fever. The defending WNBA champions won their third straight game after losing seven of eight to start the season.

The Fever took advantage after Connecticut's star player, reigning league MVP Tina Charles, was ejected early in the fourth quarter. The center picked up two technical fouls after she disagreed with a call and was sent to the locker room. She finished with 14 points.

Kelsey Griffin and Allison Hightower both scored 17 points for the Sun.

January started at point guard for the Fever after suffering concussion-like symptoms during the previous game against Seattle.

Indiana's largest lead was 21 points, but Connecticut rallied to make it a game. The Fever took a 53-47 lead into the fourth quarter. Charles got going after a rough first half with eight points in the third quarter.

Connecticut was still close before Charles' outburst, but Indiana made three free throws after her personal foul and the technicals to take a 62-54 lead with 7:06 remaining.
