For Dave Huckaba, WSOF President Ray Sefo is Just the First Step on the Road to the Title

Heavyweight Dave “Bad Man” Huckaba’s first fight of 2013 couldn’t have gone any better as he defeated former K-1 star Carter Williams via submission from punches in the second round of their WFC bout in January.

“Kickboxers are right up my alley because I’m a stand-up banger too, so when people stand and bang with me, that’s what I prefer,” said Huckaba. “I think people like to see knockouts better than grappling matches anyway.

“I thought (Williams) was going to be more aggressive, but he tried to take me down after we boxed for a little bit and I thought that was kind of a trip, him being a K-1 superstar I thought we were just going to fight it out on our feet.”

The win caught the attention of the World Series of Fighting and now Huckaba will meet his second straight K-1 star when he takes on Ray Sefo in a feature bout on Saturday night in Ontario, Calif.

“I feel Ray is a lot more threatening than Carter,” said Huckaba. “Ray’s a kickboxing legend that’s been around Xtreme Couture’s camp, so he’s around a lot high-caliber people than Carter’s been around and can have a much better camp.

“Ray is not someone you want to stand with and fight, you want to fight Ray on the move. His hands and kicks are really good, so you’ve got to use a lot of movement and fight him on the outside.”

Fighting a well-known name on an NBC Sports Network broadcasted event could be a huge step for Huckaba. And, as he told MMAWeekly.com, his aspirations don’t stop at getting exposure.

“I want people to get to know who I am and would like to get a couple more fights in before (possibly fighting for a title),” he said. “I like the WSOF. I like their style and their operation; they’re a great show with great people behind the scenes.

“Hopefully, I can get in one or two more wins for these guys and then go for the title.”
