Chipper Jones comes off disabled list

Atlanta Braves veteran Chipper Jones has been activated from the 15-day disabled list two weeks after having surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee, and he was scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros.

Jones, who had surgery March 26, was able show enough in a workout on Monday to convince Braves officials to remove him from the disabled list. This will make him available for the team's home opener on Friday.

"While I've had some sore days along the way, today I feel great," Jones told MLB.com. "I did what I had to [Monday] to prove I can go out there [Tuesday]."

Jones had only 25 at-bats during Spring Training, and except for a short batting practice session on Friday and again Monday, he has not faced live pitching since March 20. Nonetheless, the Braves decided not to have Jones play any rehab games in the minors.

Jones, who turns 40 in two weeks, has said this will be his final season of Major League baseball.
