Cast your vote for the best catch from college football's Week 3
Each Monday, we’ll gather the best catches from the weekend (or the midweek games) and bring them here for you to vote on in a poll. There could be only a few nominees, or there could be five or six. It all depends on the weekend. If you have a catch you’d like to nominate, don’t hesitate to hit us up on Twitter (@YahooDrSaturday).
The voting remains open until Friday and the winner advances to another round of voting that will help crown the best catch of the regular season.
Week 2 produced a bit of an upset thanks to the voting of the Eastern Michigan faithful.
The voting was a two-horse race, but the diving touchdown catch of EMU’s Sergio Bailey edged the one-handed grab from Auburn’s Kyle Davis to take home the Week 2 crown.
The rest of the voting was rounded out by Central Michigan’s Tyler Conklin in third, Penn State’s DeAndre Thompkins in fourth and Clemson’s Hunter Renfrow in fifth.
Here are your Week 3 nominees:
Braxton Berrios – Miami
Many folks around the country had Miami on upset watch for its road matchup at Appalachian State, which gave Tennessee all sorts of trouble in Week 1. The Hurricanes had no such issues in a convincing 45-10 win. Brad Kaaya spread the ball around to nine different receivers on the afternoon. Braxton Berrios had just one catch for the Canes, but it was a great one.
The junior used every used every inch of his 5-foot-9 frame and executed a perfect toe-tap to haul in this 13-yard completion on a 3rd & 10 play. That’s not easy.
Noah Brown – Ohio State
You’ve probably seen this one by now. In Ohio State’s big win over Oklahoma on Saturday night, redshirt freshman Noah Brown had four touchdown catches. His third of the night — right before the end of the first half — was a wild one.
Even with Oklahona’s Michiah Quick in tight coverage, Brown jumped and located the ball and pinned it against Quick’s back with one hand. As he fell to the turf, he established possession with the other hand by wrapping his arms around Quick’s body for a touchdown. It was an unbelievable play on a great night for the Buckeyes.
Isaiah Ford – Virginia Tech
The Hokies were dominant on Saturday in a 49-0 win over ACC foe Boston College. Tech QB Jerod Evans tied a program record with five touchdown passes, two of which went to Isaiah Ford. His second touchdown was an awesome one. Watch this:
Ford, who had four catches for 91 yards in the win, fought through tight double coverage, leaped and brought in the pass while keeping a foot inbounds. Great play.
Mike Gesicki – Penn State
It looks like Penn State’s Mike Gesicki has taken a big step forward as a junior. After combining for 24 catches in his first two seasons, the tight end already has nine catches for 158 yards and a touchdown this season. In Saturday’s win over Temple, Gesicki showed off his athleticism with a leaping one-handed catch on a deep ball from Trace McSorley.
That’s a 6-foot-6, 252-pound tight end making that play, folks. Pretty impressive.
James Quick – Louisville
There were a lot of great highlights in Louisville’s emphatic beatdown of Florida State, but this catch from James Quick may be the best. Cardinals QB Lamar Jackson looked for Quick on the right sideline, but an FSU defender jumped the route and got a finger on the ball. It wouldn’t matter as the ball careened into the midsection of Quick, who then managed to pin the ball between his knees.
That catch by Quick, a 44-yard gain, set up another Louisville score, increasing the lead to 35-10. The Cardinals went on to win 63-20. Quick led the way with seven catches for 122 yards.
