Broncos to discuss discipline for Heckert, Russell

The Denver Broncos are scheduled to meet Monday at the team's facility in Dove Valley, Colo., to discuss what disciplinary action they will take toward personnel executives Tom Heckert and Matt Russell, according to NFL.com.

Heckert and Russell were recently arrested for drunk-driving related offenses.

President Joe Ellis and executive vice president of football operations John Elway are expected to meet in person while owner Pat Bowlen will be on conference call.

The team has already contacted the NFL office, presumably about what possible disciplinary options they have. The sanctions against Heckert and Russell are expected to be significant.

Heckert was charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving a vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or more and careless driving stemming from a June 11 in Parker, Colo.

Russell was arrested a few weeks later in Colorado. He was suspected of being involved in an automobile accident and then crashing into a police car a few minutes later while under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with DUI, having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, careless driving resulting in injury and failure to show proof of insurance.

Three years ago, the league suspended Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand for 30 days and fined him $100,000 for a DUI. The suspension was later reduced to 21 days.
