Brewers release Bobby Crosby

Bobby Crosby, the 2004 American League rookie of the year, saw his comeback bid come to an end on Monday when the Milwaukee Brewers released him.

Crosby, 33, hasn't played in the majors since 2010, but he was hoping to return after signing a minor-league deal with the Brewers in January.

The deal would have been worth $850,000 in guaranteed money and $450,000 more in incentive bonuses if he made the Opening Day roster.

He hit just .188 this spring.
