Braves activate Upton from DL

The Atlanta Braves activated outfielder B.J. Upton from the 15-day disabled list.

Upton is recovered from a strained right adductor, which he injured on July 12. He finished a rehab assignment Friday night for Class AAA Gwinnett.

Upton is batting seventh and playing center field for the Braves for Saturday's game at the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Braves placed catcher Gerald Laird on the disabled list retroactive to July 26.

Upton has struggled this year after signing a franchise-record five-year, $75.25 million contract in the offseason. He is batting just .177 with eight home runs and a .565 OPS in 84 games.
