Auburn's Frazier to start vs. Clemson

The SportsXchange

Sophomore Kiehl Frazier was named Auburn's starting quarterback over junior Clint Moseley, who was limited since spring practice with a right shoulder injury.

Frazier will start for the Tigers in Atlanta on Sept. 1 against No. 14 Clemson. Moseley started the last six games of the 2011 season after losing a preseason competition to Barrett Trotter.

"After a complete and thorough evaluation during spring practice and through the first three-plus weeks of camp, Kiehl Frazier has earned the starting job at quarterback," Auburn coach Gene Chizik said in a news release. "We expect Kiehl to be a leader for this team and to continue to work hard every day. I am confident in his ability and leadership skills and look forward to watching him progress in both areas."

Moseley told reporters earlier this week that he would play with the shoulder injury -- but admitted he and the offensive gameplan would likely be limited. He has received cortisone shots to attempt to play through the injury.

Frazier, Auburn's third-leading rusher last season, was viewed as more of an athlete and ran plays out of the wildcat formation in Gus Malzahn's fast-paced offense. Scott Loeffler viewed his mobility as only part of his skill set.
