Andrew Luck snubbed from the Pro Bowl; again

Andrew Luck
Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck missed seven games in 2015 due to several injuries. The Colts franchise quarterback bounced back in 2016. In 15 games, Luck finished with 4,240 yards and 31 touchdowns. Luck, also set career highs in completion percentage (63.5) and QBR (71.2).

But when the original Pro Bowl rosters were announced last month, Luck was left off the AFC roster. At the time it was thought Luck had been snubbed for Ben Roethlisberger. Luck’s number were better at the time, and finished that way as well.

So when Derek Carr’s season ended due to injury it was expected that Luck would replace him. Wrong, that goes to Alex Smith.

You know, the quarterback that finished the year with just 15 touchdowns. So what exactly was Smith superior at in 2016 than Luck? Quarterback wins, remember the Chiefs finished 2nd in the AFC. Oh, and his 8 interceptions were less than Luck’s 13. But that is where the comparison ends for the former number 1 draft picks.

Just look at their stat lines compared side-by-side.

Smith- 3,502 yards, 15 touchdowns, 8 interceptions QBR (63.4)

Luck- 4,240 yards, 31 touchdowns, 13 interceptions QBR (71.2)

This should go down in the Urban Dictionary under the term snub. Straight up. What makes matters worse is the fact that Luck was named the 3rd alternate for the Pro Bowl.

Meaning Luck is the 6th best quarterback in the AFC. Putting the three starters (Ben, Derek and Brady) ahead of him and Alex Smith. That leaves the second alternate in between. Which would likely go to either Joe Flacco or Marcus Mariota.

Not a chance. Mariota has a bright future, but he is not on Luck’s level yet. Flacco rode his defense and run game to a Super Bowl, and Alex Smith has redefined mediocrity since arrive in the league.

This is a travesty in ever sense of the word. Something must be done to right this ship. Even if the Pro Bowl has turned into a laughing stock, this might just be the thing that lets Roger Goodell cancel this game.
