This amazing all-women’s motorcycle club is bringing donated breast milk to mothers and babies in need
When babies are born prematurely, their mothers are advised to pump breast milk as quickly as possible in order to lower the risk of disease or infection in their newborn. Many women aren’t able to pump right away, so donation-based breast milk banks are crucial — new moms who produce more milk than their little ones need can donate their extra milk, and the banks deliver it to area hospitals.
These non-profits are small and have limited resources, so delivering the milk can pose a problem. Luckily, an all-women’s motorcycle club is bringing donated breast milk to mothers in need, ensuring that hospitals won’t be without milk when a preemie needs to be fed.
The speediness of delivery is crucial — so Julie Bouchet-Horwitz, executive director of New York Milk Bank, got creative and sought the help of an all-female biker club in the city.
The Sirens Women’s Motorcycle Club is a group of 50 badass, big-hearted women who bike at a seriously impressive speed. “We’re uniquely positioned to do the job,” founding member Cheryl Stewart told the New York Post. “We’re on our nimble bikes that can get there faster.”

Unsurprisingly, the partnership has been a tremendous success. “Boy, these are badass women, and it just seemed like such a great idea to be able to employ their services to help us,” Bouchet-Horwitz said.
Not all heroes wear capes — some of them ride motorcycles and provide life-saving services to babies in need. We can’t think of anything more heroic than that.
