Baseball APR scores rise dramatically

Baseball programs around the country made dramatic improvements in the classroom the past four years, and especially in the last year, the NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon.

Though some schools listed below failed to meet the NCAA’s APR standards, the sport as a whole made marked improvement and bested basketball and football.

Baseball’s four-year improvement equaled an APR score of 946. Football finished the four-year cycle with an APR of 939 and basketball finished with an APR score of 933. The single year APR for baseball rose 31 points. The single year scores for basketball and football rose nearly 18 points.

The NCAA had this to say about baseball’s improvements: “Baseball eligibility and retention rates improved dramatically, in part because of academic reforms overall and specifically in that sport. These reforms require all transfers to leave an institution academically eligible to receive athletics aid at another institution; require baseball student-athletes to be academically eligible going into the fall term to participate in spring competition; require minimum financial aid for all baseball student-athletes; and eliminated the one-time transfer exception for baseball.”
