Almost three years ago to the, um, year, Deadspin's Will Leitch set out to salute the most outstanding blogs for each NBA team. He called it "Blogdom's Best." So cute. But a lot has changed in the last few years — Ballhype, Blog World, RSS feeds! — so we here at Ball Don't Lie have decided to take a second look. Today: the best Memphis Grizzlies blogs.
The Grizzlies have been a team that has struggled to make a national impact coming out of Memphis, surrounding three solid in unspectacular playoff appearances with five other pitiful rebuilding seasons. And though the outcome has been up and down, the recent blog coverage of what is often a fascinating team even in defeat has always been strong. Very strong.
It says quite a bit about the personalities involved, and the J-qualities of the scribes who at are work, to produce such fine output in spite of such a goofball seven years on the edge of the Mississippi.
3. The Memphis Edge — Memphis Commercial Appeal scribe Ronald Tillery is the only Grizzlies beat man in his paper’s history, and he’s not afraid to break news on his site before it hits your driveway in the morning. Tillery is quite connected.
2. Beyond the Arc — It’s tough to put such a formidable basketball mind at number two, but the sheer output of the number one Grizzlies blog gives it the edge. That said, Chris Herrington is a fantastic writer who knows the game and knows this team in a way the true hoop junkies can appreciate. If you’ve never heard of this blog, please don’t gloss it over. It’s really, truly, great.
1. 3 Shades of Blue — One of the best team blogs in the game, this is such a good daily read that it leaves you wondering just why some of more prominent teams in the league don’t have blogs that are nearly this good.
The crew behind this gem of a website offer daily analysis, news, polls, links (maybe the best blogroll out there); and if "daily analysis, news, polls, links" sounds like just about every other NBA site on the 'net … yeah, this isn’t like every other site. Give it a read, and compare and contrast.
