Rookie puts first big league hit in rearview mirror: Guardians breakfast

The pressure is off Guardians rookie Kyle Manzardo now that his first big league hit is out of the way. Manzardo's pinch-hit single in the seventh inning Wednesday against Detroit righty Jason Foley snapped an 0-for-7 since his debut Monday that included five strikeouts. “It's a big weight off the shoulders, obviously,” Manzardo told reporters afterward. Manager Stephen Vogt, who knows a little something about rookie futility, said there is always a sense of relief when a player gets his first hit, and that everybody in the dugout knows how hard it is to accomplish.
