Allegations: Cornelius Green

Cornelius Green was one of multiple Hurricanes players named by Nevin Shapiro in documented interviews with federal agents. During those interviews, the booster admitted supplying benefits to Miami players from 2002 to 2010. Shapiro said he began giving benefits to Green in 2002. Among the benefits allegedly provided:

• A television from BrandsMart USA for an apartment shared by Green, Jerome McDougle and Andrew Williams.

• Multiple cash gifts.

• A $500 bounty for holding Tennessee to a field goal after the Volunteers had a first-and-goal at Miami’s 4-yard line. The game – played on Nov. 9, 2002 – ended in a 26-3 win for the Hurricanes.

• Meals at Miami-area restaurants.

• VIP access and drinks in nightclubs on multiple occasions.

• Food, drinks, entertainment and lodging at Shapiro’s $2.7 million Miami Beach home.

• A Mercedes S500 in mid-November of Green’s senior year, with Shapiro making the lease payments.

Corroborating accounts

• A second source corroborated Green and his roommates receiving a television that Shapiro purchased at BrandSmart USA.

• A second source corroborated Green receiving cash gifts from Shapiro.

• A second source corroborated Green driving Shapiro’s Mercedes S500 during his senior year.

• Three sources corroborated Green receiving food, drinks, entertainment and lodging at Shapiro’s home. Yahoo! Sports also acquired multiple photos of Green at Shapiro’s home.

• A second source corroborated Green receiving a bounty payment from Shapiro.

• A second source corroborated Green receiving meals at Miami restaurants which were paid by Shapiro. Yahoo! Sports also acquired a photo of Green and several other Miami players with Shapiro at Japanese steakhouse Benihana. Shapiro and a second source said the photo was taken during the 2002 season and that the booster paid for the meal.

• Three sources corroborated Green receiving VIP access and drinks paid for by Shapiro in nightclubs.

In Shapiro’s words

• “Cash, bounties, family events – Cornelius was there for everything. I inevitably gave him a Mercedes S500 around the second week of November his senior year to drive out a lease. My friend’s father gave it to me and inevitably died a few weeks later, but I took over the car [payments].”

• “I would have to say he was probably the chief accomplice in every single event that I ever threw at the University of Miami.”
