Candlestick Park looks eerie awaiting demolition

Candlestick Park was never going to win any beauty contests or architectural awards. But the former home of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers had plenty of historic moments happen in its 54-year history including the Beatles' final concert, "The Catch," eight NFC Championship games and a World Series game interrupted by an earthquake. Events that still resonate to this day. But after Paul McCartney performed one last time there in August, the much-maligned stadium known for its capricious winds had held its final event. Next up for the venue is demolition, which is planned for sometime in early 2015. And thanks to photographer Patricia Chang and the good folks at Curbed, a rather eerie-looking 'Stick awaits its demise.

The stark images were captured via drone and paint a rather dreary picture. The stadium, which opened in 1960, looks like a ghost town. Pairs of seats went on sale this summer for $749 a pop, which explains the desolate appearance inside the bowl. Alas, once the edifice goes down, a major redevelopment will continue. Next up for the bayside site is an outdoor mall, affordable housing and over a hundred acres of parks and open space.
