Corinthians win first Copa Libertadores title with Emerson Sheik double

Corinthians, Brazil's second most popular club, finished off Boca Juniors with a 2-0 win in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final to claim their first ever title in the competition (3-1 aggregate score). Brazilian-born, attempted Qatar international Emerson Sheik scored both goals for Corinthians within 20 minutes of each other in the second half.

The defeat not only prevented Boca Juniors from equally Independiente's record seven Copa Libertadores titles, but it also kept them from surpassing Milan's 18 continental and worldwide trophies.

Though Corinthians have 26 state titles, five Brasileiro titles and one Club World Cup title (when they hosted the inaugural tournament in 2000), this was the first time they even reached the Copa Libertadores final, let alone won the competition. And Emerson, the man who sealed their victory, was once detained by Brazilian police for using a fake birth certificate that listed his age as three years younger than he is to obtain a passport and later broke FIFA rules by playing for Qatar three times despite playing for Brazil's U-20 (when he was actually 21, but still claiming to be 18) earlier in his career. A fairytale story if ever there was one.
