Come join Bob Costas in his Fortress of Solitude

Bob Costas in the Fortress of Solitude.

Bob Costas introduced Saturday night's NBC Olympic coverage by noting that his icy studio bore a striking resemblance to the classic "Fortress of Solitude," the North Pole lair where Superman would hide out to keep from having to save every cat stuck in every tree on the planet.

"Unfortunately for me," Costas continued, "the eye infection is not getting any better, so for the time being I’m still stuck with Clark Kent’s glasses."

It's OK, Bob. We know your true identity. You're just waiting for a moment to shine! Here's Superman's headquarters, for comparison:

This Olympics is already shaping up well, but if it were to end with a Bob Costas-Vladimir Putin fight on the NBC set, well, it'd be the greatest ever:

Update: A reader points out that Costas' set also bears a striking similarity, for viewers born after 1985, to the ice palace from last year's "Frozen":
