Back by popular demand, here are your Puck Previews: Spotlighting the key games in NHL action, news and views as well as general frivolity. Make sure to stop back here for the nightly Three Stars when the games are finished.

The Boston Bruins defeated the Winnipeg Jets in a shootout this afternoon. Tyler Seguin brought the sickness. [Y!]

Preview: Buffalo Sabres at Toronto Maple Leafs, 7 p.m. ET. Thomas Vanek will follow up his 5-point game with a 6-point game and make my darkhorse MVP call look genius. And the home-opener start goes to … Ben Scrivens? The Leafs go with their opening day winner, who said his win over the Canadiens was “another brick in my wall.” Apparently, he don’t need no education.

Preview: Detroit Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets, 7 p.m. ET. The Wings try for their first win of the season after getting waxed by the Blues. Sergei Bobrovsky tries to give the BJs their second win of the season. Point of concern: Jimmy Howard is 9-1-1 with a 1.68 goals-against average against Columbus. Of course, there was this Lidstrom guy who appeared in most of those games.

Preview: Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators, 7:30 p.m. ET. Jose Theodore vs. Craig Anderson in this one. Dmitry Kulikov and Mike Weaver return to the Panthers blue line for the first time this season. Meanwhile, Erik Karlsson is reinventing ways to pick up assists.

Preview: Anaheim Ducks at Calgary Flames, 9:30 p.m. ET. Jonas Hiller vs. Miikka Kiprusoff, as the Ducks try to build off their decimation of the Canucks in the opener. As you know, it’s a shortened season. Good thing: The same Jarome Iginla story will only be written half as much.

Evening Reading

• In early action: The Islanders defeated the Lightning, 4-3, after nearly blowing their lead. [Y!]

• The Calgary Flames trade goalie Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks for a seventh-round pick in 2013. [NHL]

• Why Cory Schneider needs to get playing, now, for the Vancouver Canucks: “Schneider needs to get going now. Three weeks removed from his month-long lockout holiday in the Swiss League and without the aid of even one pre-season game before Saturday, Schneider needs to play. There should be no hesitation by anyone in the organization about starting him Wednesday.” [Vancouver Sun]

• Kris Versteeg hits the IR. [9 News]

• Here’s an interactive map chronicling where players are from in Canada. Provided, like, they’re Canadian. [The Loop]

• Sad story about the All-Star Game-less Columbus business community: “Fans have endured league lockouts before, but here, hopes were particularly high that the All-Star Weekend would help shine a light on a city seeking to raise its profile. While the stoppage means money lost for the NHL and its players, the termination of the event—as well as a majority of the 2012-13 season—is costing local business owners (particularly those in the Arena District and Short North) mightily. Much of the struggle stems from high expectations.” [Columbus Monthly]

Puck Daddy Reader Comment of the Day: From the “What disgusting thing did this Boston Bruins fan find in his TD Garden food?” post, Robert writes…

“A curly fell in when Jeremy Jacobs was personally urinating in all the concession items.”

Bold Prediction: Teemu has another multi-point game for the Ducks.
