Puck Daddy’s Create a Cheesy 1990s-style NHL Poster contest: Gallery 1

Puck Daddy's Create a Cheesy NHL Player Poster is our latest reader art contest, marrying your impressive Photoshop skills with your dark and twisted imaginations. So far, the results are impressive: The usual snarky takes on all things NHL, along with some honest-to-goodness attempts at creating legit 1990s-style posters for today's players:

That Jonathan Quick effort was the work of reader Kristopher Kern.

Once more, with feeling: This is a classic PD Photoshop contest, and we're looking for the most hilarious, creative and puckhead-smart posters; ones we'd proudly waste the Fun-Tack on to hang on our rec room.

We'll announce other door prizes in the next gallery, but remember: We're got a partnership with Heritage Hockey for this and other contests this year.

Heritage Hockey is home of Team Canada 1972 and your destination for hockey memorabilia. First Place prize for this contest: A Team Canada 1972 road jersey and a DVD copy of "'72 From Training Camp To Victory." We'll have additional NHL related prizes for the runners-up. Now head over to Facebook and "like" these guys for us.

Enter as often as you'd like (PG-13 Content Warning, as always). The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST. Email your entries to puckdaddyblog@yahoo.com, or hit us with any questions.

And now, things that will make you giggle.

And here … we … go.

Yakov Mironov with the patriotic Tim Thomas poster found in every dorm room of Liberty University.

Thanks to Michal Marczynski for tickling our geek fancy with this homage.

Is that a "Batman and Robin" font we spy in this rainbow tribute to Scott Hartnell?

Indiana Matt from The Royal Half with the Dustin Penner's pancakes tribute.

Battle of the New York camouflage! Paul Collett with the Artem Anisimov sniper poster, vs ...

... Mike with the now mandatory Rick DiPietro poster.

OK, so this is actually a movie poster. But it's a damn fine one from Mike Tan. The dude abides ...

Mike Chorney with a poster that makes us want to get our pets spayed or neutered.

Damon Cassaro sent over a few choices, some of which you'll see in the next gallery. This was one of the best.

Bri-Guy gets into character.

Two, count'em, two Peter Forsberg posters. First, a nice Star Wars homage from Rob Gelbman.

... meanwhile, Tyler Hunt gives us the winner of the create-a-1690s portrait.

Pete Stern with a really cool retro poster for "rising star" Jim Carey.

Nick ... has ... the ... POWER!

And finally ...

Liquor Pugs with the greatest Manon Rhéaume thing we've ever seen of all-time ever.
