NHL teams increase security at arenas following Paris attacks

The world sat stunned on Friday as the attacks in Paris unfolded. Moments of silence were held across the NHL in honor of those lost to the violence.

The Washington Capitals aligned their red, white and blue stadium lights to create the French flag on the ice as the national anthem rang thorough the arena speakers. Players, teams and fans expressed their condolences and sent their prayers throughout social media as news continued to come in.

In an effort to protect their fans, the NHL issued an advisory to all teams regarding their security practices at their arenas. 

Craig Custance of ESPN obtained a news release from the Detroit Red Wings, who were hosting the San Jose Sharks on Friday night, detailing the additional security measures taken:
