Conn Smythe Watch: Wild times in MVP race
By popular demand, Puck Daddy takes its Conn Smythe Watch from the evening Three Stars to every morning of the postseason. Keep in mind that we factor in the probability of a long playoff run into these choices. Who are the current favorites for playoff MVP? Glad you asked.
1. Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings
Kopitar has played 10 playoff games. He’s scored in every one of them, leading the NHL with 15 points in the playoffs.
2. P.K. Subban, Montreal Canadiens
Subban has 11 points in eight games and is skating 26:58 per game. Six of his points have come on the power play.
3. Evgeni Malkin Pittsburgh Penguins
Another goal for Malkin in Game 5, giving him six on the postseason and 13 points.
4. Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins
With this Game 4 shutout, Rask now has a .941 save percentage and a 1.67 GAA for the postseason.
5. Zach Parise, Minnesota Wild
Parise had an assist in Game 4, giving him 14 points in 11 games for second in the playoffs in scoring.
6. Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks
Toews has four goals and five assists in 10 playoff games, but went scoreless with a minus-2 in two games in Minny.
7. Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks
Getzlaf has 11 points in eight games, including four power-play points.
8. Marian Gaborik, Los Angeles Kings
Six goals for Gaborik, who now has four assists as well after Game 3. He’s tied with Jussi Jokinen and Evgeni Malkin for the NHL postseason goal lead.
9. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers
The King made 31 saves in the Rangers’ 5-1 Game 5 win, and has a .932 even strength save percentage.
10. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings
Quick has a .920 and remains the catalyst for the Kings’ dominant run lately.
