Rutgers DL Darius Hamilton out for rest of season
The hits keep coming for Rutgers.
The program announced before Saturday’s game against Kansas that senior defensive lineman Darius Hamilton will miss the rest of the season due to a “lower body injury.”
Hamilton was an All-Big Ten selection for the Scarlet Knights last season as he racked up 45 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. He appeared in just one game this season – last weekend’s loss at Penn State.
According to the Asbury Park Press, Hamilton said on Monday that he could redshirt this season and return for his fifth year next fall. He could also potentially be eligible for a graduate transfer, but has given no indication that was something he was considering.
Overall in his career, Hamilton has 110 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks.
Hamilton’s injury is the latest setback in a difficult few months for Rutgers. The team has had a bevy of off-field incidents, leading to the dismissal of six players. Additionally, head coach Kyle Flood is currently serving a three-game suspension for impermissible contact with a faculty member and star wide receiver Leonte Carroo is indefinitely suspended after an arrest for assault.
Rutgers (1-2) hosts Kansas on Saturday.
