Dennis Franchione is reportedly moving on from Texas State and coaching altogether.

According to multiple reports, Franchione, who recently finished his fifth season with the Bobcats, will officially step down and announce his retirement Tuesday afternoon.

The news was first reported by Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman and was later confirmed by Franchione to the San Marcos Daily Record.

From the Daily Record:

Amid a tumultuous 3-9 campaign — his worst in 30-plus years as a head coach — Franchione informed the Daily Record that he is retiring as the head football coach effective immediately.

Franchione, who compiled a 20-28 record in five seasons with the Bobcats, spoke with athletic director Larry Teis last Tuesday and laid out his plan to retire. Teis asked him to mull things over last weekend, but Franchione's mind was already made up.

With two years left on his contract, Franchione will be paid $288,000.

Here's a letter Franchione sent to the team.

Franchione guided Texas State’s transition to the FBS level over the past five seasons but had his worst year in 2015, going just 3-9.

Overall, Franchione’s record at Texas State is 39-43, including a 16-20 (9-14 Sun Belt) record in FBS play. He also had a two-year stint as the school’s head coach in 1990 and 1991 when the school was known as Southwest Texas State and competed in the Southland Conference.

Before his time at Texas State, Franchione had stints as head coach at Texas A&M (2003-2007), Alabama (2001-2002), TCU (1998-2000), New Mexico (1992-1997), Pittsburg State (1985-1989) and Southwestern College (1981-1982).

Overall, the 64-year-old Franchione compiled a 213-135-2 record in 30 seasons as a head coach.
