Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez makes extra cash by creating and selling iPhone apps
Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is already preparing for his future – a future that might not include football.
Even though Martinez will undoubtedly get a shot in the NFL, he’s spending his down time in Lincoln, Neb., working the stock market and developing iPhone apps.
Martinez told CBSSports.com that his latest development is a free app called “Follow The Pattern,” which is a little like the popular 80s game Simon where patterns are made using red, blue, green and yellow blocks. You’re paired with an online player (a friend or a random opponent) and you create a pattern and send it to your opponent. They complete the pattern and send you one back and so on and so forth. Points are accumulated by how fast you complete the pattern you were sent.
"I like to work out puzzles in my head,” Martrinez told CBSSports.com. "There's not much to do in Nebraska, so you just start thinking of ways to make money."
Martinez used to sell Follow The Pattern, which is marketed by Maneka Games, for 99 cents, but the game is currently free while he works on the code. He declined to tell CBSSports.com how much he's made off the app, but it has a nearly perfect star rating by its 86 reviewers.
Not a bad way for Martinez to get his mind off the ups and downs of the football season for awhile.
