Florida removes Aaron Hernandez All-American brick from campus

Dr. Saturday

The above photo comes from University of Florida professor Ted Spiker, who took it Thursday morning outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. What you're seeing is the removal of Aaron Hernandez's All-American brick, earned during his 2009 season with the Gators.

Earlier this month the school told the Florida Alligator (the university's student paper) it hadn't discussed removing the brick because most of the administration was not in Gainesville. The stones are awarded to players who are named first-team All-Americans and are located outside the Gators' stadium.

Hernandez, currently awaiting trial on a charge of first-degree murder, also found himself edited out of the newest versions of EA Sports' "NCAA Football" and "Madden" video games.

Hernandez played tight end for the Gators from 2007-09, accumulating 111 catches for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns. In addition to earning All-American status, Hernandez helped Florida win the 2008 BCS title and won the 2009 Mackey Award, given to the best tight end in the nation.

During his time in Gainesville, Hernandez was suspended one game for failing a marijuana test, arrested for a bar fight (charges were dropped) and questioned as a witness in a shooting.

Update: And now the brick is gone:
