Florida state attorney Willie Meggs has issued subpoenas to five Florida State football players in the case against former quarterback De’Andre Johnson.

Meggs told the Tallahassee Democrat that other players also could be questioned.

On June 24, Johnson punched a 21-year-old woman while the two were jostling over a spot at the bar of a local nightclub.

Johnson, 19, was charged with misdemeanor battery and was ultimately dismissed from the Florida State football program after footage of the incident was released.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Meggs questioned sophomore defensive back Malique Jackson and redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Wilson Bell on Tuesday, and sophomore linebacker Jacob Pugh, redshirt freshman tight end Mavin Sanders and freshman wide receiver Auden Tate all will meet with Meggs on Friday.

"I'm primarily interested in what they saw," Meggs told the paper.

Meggs also told the paper "it's clear from the investigation" that Johnson initiated the contact as he was trying to get to the bar. Johnson’s lawyer, Jose Baez, told NBC News on Tuesday that his client was acting in self-defense.

"It wasn't until she struck him twice that he reacted," Baez told NBC News. "But he is very...He is very regretful that he didn't turn around and walk away immediately."

Meggs said the woman, who is shown also throwing a punch at Johnson, is not being charged in the incident.

"A person's entitled to use self-defense if they're being battered by someone else, and she certainly was entitled to do what she did," Meggs said. "She didn't commit a crime is the reason she's not charged with a crime."
