After one season at Wisconsin, Austin Hudson is headed back to his hometown.

Hudson, a safety from Tampa, Florida, told ESPN.com on Thursday that he’ll transfer to South Florida.

“I love being a part of building my hometown team. It’s an exciting next chapter of my career,” Hudson said.

Hudson, who enrolled early in January 2014, made the decision to leave Wisconsin in March and told BadgerNation.com that Wisconsin “wasn’t the right fit.”

“I have nothing negative to say,” Hudson said in March. “It was a journey I needed to make to understand where I belong and Wisconsin just wasn't the right fit. Football wise it may have been but in terms of what I idealize, the school itself wasn't the right fit.”

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Hudson played in all 14 games as a true freshman for Wisconsin in 2014 and registered 19 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and one forced fumble.

A Rivals two-star recruit, Hudson chose Wisconsin over other offers from Georgia and Missouri.
