LSU reportedly received a boost to its depth at quarterback on Monday.

According to TigerBait.com, former Purdue quarterback Danny Etling is transferring to LSU after a weekend visit.

Etling, a junior, announced his decision to leave Purdue after two seasons earlier this month. Etling, a former four-star recruit, started 12 games for the Boilermakers over the past two seasons. He threw for 1,690 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven inteceptions in seven starts as a true freshman in 2013.

However, he struggled through five starts in 2014 and was benched in favor of Austin Appleby. In those five starts, Etling threw for 800 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.

The 6-foot-2, 216-pound Etling will have to sit out the 2015 season per the NCAA transfer rules and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

He joins a quarterback group that has underwhelmed the past few seasons. Junior Anthony Jennings and sophomore Brandon Harris are again competing for the starting role after splitting time last season.

Jennings was one of three LSU players arrested last week for allegedly breaking into an off-campus apartment.
