Du'Vonta Lampkin appeals for LOI release from Texas
Du'Vonta Lampkin, a Texas signee, has officially appealed to the NCAA for the Longhorns to release him from his commitment.
Lampkin said in May he was not enrolling at the university. He can't get in because he doesn't have the proper foreign language requirements. He needs to have three Spanish courses completed before he can be admitted and while he's gotten one taken care of, there isn't enough time to complete the other two before the fall semester begins.
According to Orangebloods.com, Lampkin filed his appeal paperwork with the NCAA on Thursday and Texas has until July 17 to respond with its counter. Following Texas' move, an NCAA committee will then determine if Lampkin should be released from his commitment to the Longhorns.
However, the site says it's simply a matter of time before he is released from the commitment because he doesn't qualify for entrance to the university. A decision in his favor would give him time to possibly find a new school for the 2015 season instead of going to junior college, a route that is not preferred.
“I really can’t even get into the school no more,” Lampkin told Horns 24/7. “So like, if I can’t get into the school, what’s the point of them hanging on to me?”
Maybe because he's previously said Oklahoma is a top destination if he is released from his commitment at Texas? A three-star recruit, Lampkin verbally committed to Texas last summer and before he flipped to the Longhorns, he had said he was going to Oklahoma.
