Ryan Finley is leaving Boise State.

The program announced Tuesday that Finley, a junior quarterback, plans to transfer after he graduates in May.

Finley started the first three games of the 2015 season for the Broncos, but missed the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his ankle. In his absence, true freshman Brett Rypien emerged as the team’s starting quarterback and ended up earning first-team all-Mountain West honors. He also was the conference’s Freshman of the Year.

Finley tried to regain the starting role this spring, but could not supplant Rypien. As a result, Finley has decided to move on from Boise State.

“We wish Ryan the best,” head coach Bryan Harsin said in a release. “He is going to leave Boise State with a degree, and that is what this is all about.”

Finley threw for 485 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions while completing 65.7 percent of his passes before injuring his ankle against Idaho.

According to the Idaho Press-Tribune, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound Finley will have two years of eligibility left at his next stop and will be able to play immediately. Additionally, he could receive a third year if he receives a medical redshirt from last season’s injury.

With Finley out of the picture, Tommy Stuart moves into the No. 2 quarterback role. Stuart threw for 114 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 59 yards and three scores in 2015.
