Charlotte’s Pierria Henry taken to hospital with breathing problem during loss to Saint Louis

UPDATE: Doctors diagnosed Charlotte's Pierria Henry with a bruised trachea suffered late in the 49ers' quarterfinal loss to Saint Louis on Friday. He has been released from the hospital and is at the team's Brooklyn hotel with his teammates.

Charlotte's trip to the A-10 tournament lasted a day longer than most expected and has been eventful to say the least.

One day after upsetting Richmond with eight free throws from three technical fouls in the final 5 seconds, the 49ers couldn't overcome top-seeded Saint Louis in a 72-55 quarterfinal round loss.

With approximately 4 minutes remaining in the game, the Charlotte athletic training staff decided to have Pierria Henry transported to a Brooklyn-area hospital when he complained of breathing difficulties after an inadvertent blow to the chest from a Saint Louis player.

Charlotte coach Alan Major initially told reporters after the game that his entire team expressed an interest in going to the hospital to check on their teammate. But Charlotte spokesman Brent Stastny said the team returned to the team hotel after the game instead of clogging up a hospital waiting room.

Stastny said there was no update available on Henry's condition at 4 p.m. (EST). Henry scored seven points with seven rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes played in the game.

Dwayne Evans scored 25 points to lead the Billikens.
