Jeff Gordon showed off his Texas A&M car on the A&M campus Thursday
Jeff Gordon and Johnny Manziel? Unfortunately the coupling of the four-time Sprint Cup Series champion and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner didn't happen on Thursday, but Gordon officially unveiled the Texas A&M car he'll be driving this weekend at a Thursday appearance in College Station, Texas.
The CEO of Axalta Coating Systems, the company that purchased Gordon's long-time sponsor DuPont, is an A&M graduate. So he paid for the Aggie paint scheme Gordon will strap into at Texas Motor Speedway.
Maybe the luck of the SEC will be upon Gordon at Texas? Jamie McMurray was the last driver to run a college paint scheme when he drove an Auburn car at Talladega last fall. He won the race.

Gordon also stopped by Texas A&M's football practice Thursday and met with coach Kevin Sumlin. Gordon now even has a custom No. 24 Texas A&M jersey, but much like Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s basketball career, we don't think Gordon will be making a switch to football anytime soon.

When Gordon drove the car around the A&M campus Thursday, College Station's KBTX quoted a student who wished Gordon's car would be the No. 12 for the Texas A&M 12th man. We have to laugh at that comment. For as famous as the A&M 12th man story is, there's no way Gordon would be switching numbers for a race. His number may be as or more iconic in NASCAR than the 12th man is in college football.
